When to export JPG, PNG, or WebP — BGResize

|

background resizer — Pick the format the destination will accept. Encode stays on your device.

JPG for photos, PNG for a hard edge, WebP only when the site accepts it.

JPG for photographs

JPG suits photos for chat, thumbnails, and meeting walls. The editor has a quality slider. A lower value makes a smaller file. A higher value keeps detail before a video site compresses the thumbnail again.

PNG for a hard edge

PNG keeps a lossless file or a transparent edge. Use it when a logo or cutout should stay sharp. A GIF upload is saved as a still PNG, because the browser cannot encode an animated GIF. PNG does not use the JPG quality slider.

WebP when the site accepts it

Choose WebP for destinations that accept it. Convert pages such as JPG to PNG open this same editor with that format already selected. This image resizer does not upload your pixels to transcode them. One file at a time is free. Exporting several files together needs Pro.
